by Jewel Williams

“I have to make a choice to let God deal with those who caused me injury and trust that they too will ask God to forgive them for what they have done (67).”

In order to be completely whole (i.e. together, sound, and unbroken), one must be able to know who they are, what they are here for and what purpose they are to serve. So often, women are in a search of being completely whole,

Paulette Harper

because they have so much on their mind. They find it easy for them to hide themselves behind their work, family and church activities in such a chaotic society. However, there is a female who identifies herself joyously: “I’m celebrating the woman God has designed destined, and called me to be. (109)” She utters these words with pride and confidence in a celebration of being sound with God. She humble directs other women because she doesn’t want them to be confused anymore.

Paulette Harper, author of Completely Whole, is she. She plainly states that “words have the power and ability to create (76)” which can place your in a position to be completely whole. The purpose of her book Completely Whole is to “bring the reader to the place of wholeness—spirit, soul and body.” She provides a biblical foundation, personal experiences, prayer and a confession in each chapter to give a voice of reasoning to the women who cry out to learn more about who she is, where she is to go and why it is so important to know God’s word. Her personal walk is the example within the text. She is transparent just enough so that you understand your own walk is definitely not in vain.

Harper wants women to live life the way that God has outlined for them within the bible, but she makes it clear that it is a choice that must be made by the individual.

“…we must be willing to accept the way God chooses to purify us and bring wholeness to our lives. (17).”

Too often there is hurt, sadness, and wounds that women must face. For they know they are fears, but continued faith in God is a choice that must be made to live completely whole. “God made a choice to grant us forgiveness in spite of all the wrong we had done (63).” Harper alludes that we must not deny ourselves the love which He gives, and we must move forward.

Paulette Harper’s book is a gift to women; our mothers, daughters, mother-in-laws, sisters. Regardless of what chapter you are living in your life, there is a chapter in the author’s book that will guide you to becoming Completely Whole. Remember, the choice is yours!

Would you like to go to a place where there are countless authors and events?

Christian Authors on Tour will be participating in the Harlem Book Festival on July 17, 2010. It is encouraged that if you are in NY that you visit this amazing table/tent of authors who will provide a work which is anointed. To help you decide what work is of interest to you, I have the following authors information of those participating below:

Lynn Pinder, Psalms of the Daughter, a collection of soul-stirring poems and short stories, tugs at readers’ heart strings while offering a poetic insight into the difficult life struggles faced by some Christians and non-Christians. The book includes a set of discussion questions appropriate for book clubs and/or Bible study groups.

Maxine Bigby Cunningham, Power Walking, a Journey to Wholeness uses “power walking” as a metaphor for a lifestyle of walking with Christ, through poetry and prose the author shares her challenges with a mental illness and provides readers four steps to holistic wellness – body, mind and spirit. Scriptures from the Books of Psalms and Philippians precede each chapter; each chapter opens with a prayer and concludes with a song of praise. The “book ends” (Prologue and Epilogue) are extracted from the Book of Isaiah.

Melody Ravert, The Nightwolf Series: Book Two: Trouble in Paradise and the Secret Behind the Powers is about a young man’s determination to make the city a safer place by confronting gangs as a costumed vigilante inspires a Christian young woman of political influence to join him by also wearing a disguise, thereby thrusting the duo into conflicts of political scandals, police corruption, and organized crime.

Annette E. Morton, Transference of Coverings: Understanding the Role of a Man Over a Woman’s Life is a biblical teaching and author testimonial. Although written primarily to women, the book also serves as a ministry to men as well. The book’s focus is to restore the precious, protective proper male coverings over women by discussing three main biblical male coverings: the father covering, the husband covering, and the covering of the widow, while also sharing with women how to avoid relationship pitfalls and encouraging them to discover their God-esteem and divine destiny.

Sandra Mizell Chaney, Give It To Her: The Gift Of Healing and Restoration will take you on a journey to wholeness. It exists as an instrument to help you open up “Pandora’s Box” of pain, hurts and disappointments; teach you how to break the attitudes and mindsets that keep you from being that authentic person that God created you to be; and show you that you already possess everything you need to receive God’s gift of healing and restoration. Give It to Her: The Gift Of Healing and Restoration, is proof that one need not be defined by the difficulties or mistakes of the past, but that you are defined by who God created you to be.

K.M. Johnson, Knowing The Struggle Is Over! gives the reader a 3-step process for getting through any struggle or situation they may be going through in their lives. The book takes the reader on a journey to discovering their pathway, which results in building and relying on their faith! With exercises at the end of each chapter, this book may also function as a “faith” workbook for the individual, small group, or Bible study.

Mitzi Carrasquillo, In Jesus Name, Please Don’t Touch Me There is an inspirational and motivational book on how Mitzi overcame Sexual Abuse, Rape, and Depression. The book reveals Mitzi’s journey and how the Word of God Saved her life- loving, healing and restoring her!

Dr. Steven Haymon, Stress : Climbing Out of the Pits with God, discusses how stress affects us and the people in our lives. It indicates how intense and encompassing stress can be and explains how it can precipitate in us the usage of distractions such as: gambling, alcohol, drugs, sex, pornography, blaming, fear, relationships, and even religion; to name a few. The explains how stress can cause physical, mental, and spiritual deterioration in us. By understanding stress and its connection to our relationship with God, we can obtain answers to how to live the healthy life He wants us to live.

Joy Turner, Content…Right Where I Am, is a snapshot of the author’s journey toward finding contentment. This book will encourage, uplift, and provide a few tools and strategies to cultivate contentment. Finding Contentment in everyday life is attainable through searching out and finding value in what matters in life. Through economic challenges, wars, and rumors of wars, tragedy and disappointment, one can still acquire peace, joy, and a sense of hope through the Gospel of Jesus Christ

Dr. A’ndrea Wilson, The Things We Said We Would Never Do, An intense story about four women who have to make some difficult, life-altering decisions by summer’s end and everything they vowed to never do, has come back to haunt them.

Rev. Antonio Clinkscales, How To Find The Perfect Church: Testing the Spirit reveals how “we fool ourselves into thinking if we could only find that one perfect ‘thing’ in our lives that somehow, life in its totality, would be better.” The book highlights the frustration and anger many face towards the church and its leadership. In the book, Rev. Clinkscales answers the burning questions: (1) what is the perfect church; and (2) does the perfect church even exist? Readers are challenged to apply a spiritual litmus test to determine the solution for themselves. This inspirational book will point readers in the right direction toward finding everything their heart desires, including the perfect church.

Book Review by: Jewel Williams, M.Ed.

The most beautiful sound that could resonate through the air is a melody. Melodies are often distinct, because they are usually soft and soothing. In melodies, you are able to identify each instrument’s “voice.” For example, poetry has a voice, and most poetry has a melody were the voice resonates, such as the following, “Orchestra of God”

Each cause you embrace a hymn of praise.
Each good deed you do a clanging gong.
Make your life a perfect harmony.
Each thought and every hope a trumpet and a drum.

The excerpt from “Orchestra of God” comes from Woman At The Well: Thirsting for Grace , a book which is a melody of words, thoughts and excerpts from the bible which displays the poignant understanding of living in grace. This Christian book isn’t an ordinary book of prose and poetry, but it is truly a teaching tool.

Author Mary O. Moss divides her book into three sections: Searching for God’s Saving Grace, Discovering God’s Amazing Grace, and Relying Upon God’s Sufficient Grace. Within those sections, she connects stories, testimonies, and poetry to bible verses; and they in turn provide the understanding of the grace of God and his work in her life and in that of yours.

For example, Moss identifies that there must be a time where listening to God is most important.

“We need to stop and take an inventory of our lives. Really think about the value and the meaning of each activity and determine if participating in them is worth the time and energy expended.”

Additionally, Moss infuses lessons where it forces the reader to remember the reason for why we should thirst in “Empty me. Fill me.”…

Empty me of all that is fearful
Empty me of all that is self-involved.
Empty me of all that is controlling
Empty me of all hunger for more than my body needs.

Mary O. Moss has a divine gift. She serves God by sharing her talent by speaking to Christians through her journey of expressing God’s love through “…utterance(s) of wisdom.” Woman At The Well is a book which can be used in a variety of methods, book clubs, churches, and personal enrichment. Author Moss, also known for her business, Divinely Designed which is named perfectly to that of her ministry, reaching to the reader so that they continue to thirst for grace.

Southern Literature Lives in Mississippi

Review by: Jewel Williams, M.Ed. (Author and Co-founder of Wiseducators)

As a country girl at heart, I appreciate the sincere words of gratitude and poise within the poetry book, Reflections of a Mississippi Magnolia. I would have to say that the author’s work is Southern culture at its finest. The ubiquitous presence of life is eloquently provided to the reader on the black and white pages of this book.

Patricia Neely-Dorsey demonstrates her appreciation of reading and writing which was given as a loving gift from her parents. Her love for life has been passionately expressed with a universal eloquence that all readers urban, suburban, and rural can envision the south: Mississippi in particular not as the place of turmoil but of triumph.

Author Neely-Dorsey has a poem which reminds me of my mornings with my southern grandmother. As she and I would sit at the kitchen table to say a prayer of thanks to God right before it was time for us to consume our “Country Breakfast”

“And big, chunky biscuits

That could choke any horse.

What goes in the middle,

Is anyone’s guess;

Some molasses or syrup

Would sure pass the test.”

In “Country Breakfast”, the author’s creative words provide comfort to me knowing that someone else cherishes their moments at the table with their family.

“My Sorority” humbly gives a gracious tribute to the author’s membership in the First African-American Sorority founded at Howard University in 1908. She shares her love, appreciation, and gratefulness for their poise and gracious demeanor.

“You know us by the pink and green,

Ant the air of style and grace;

You’ll probably notice a quiet confidence,

Plastered on each face.”

Toward the end of the book, the author grabs the reader by giving her affirmation of, “Mississippi Magnolia”

“Home is where the heart is

That’s what they always say

Well my heart is Mississippi’s”

Author Neely-Dorsey’s technique affectionately displays the symbolism of her state and the position of her heart through similes, metaphors, and personification. There is no argument to the fact that her primary purpose is to share her love for Mississippi through the seven sections of her poetry book, Reflections of a Mississippi Magnolia.

Don’t Let the Bad Economy Stop Your Success

“I was laid off 3 times, mostly based on yearly budgets. That led me to do some research. I found that most companies do a budget every year from October through January meaning that one year you or I just might not be in the budget. Also, I found that after working a job for forty (40) years, only about 4 out of every 100 people can retire without depending on family, friends or the government. Meaning, that most people retire broke or below their means after forty (40) years of service. So they retire, only to go back to doing something part- time, which turns into another fulltime job until age 75. What kind of life is that?”1

The above information is research and testimony from the author of How to Survive in a Bad Economy: Be The Entrepreneur You Were Born to Be! Mr. Grant wants to “give hope, by way of sharing with everyone that they [people] are one deal away from being financially free.” His book fits well with the theme of community economic awareness: Financial Fitness Month.

Are you willing to be Successful?

There are so many books on the market about success; it is almost difficult to discern which book to choose. In order to achieve success, one has to be willing to read a very detailed and intriguing book about success and want to use some of its practices. DS Brown is sincere about helping you break the barrier to becoming a success with his book, Critical Success: The 2 Rules of 3.

His approach is an approach similar to ones that teachers instruct the youth through lesson plans: that emphasize critical thinking practices. So much of what we do in society is given to us and not exercising our mental muscle, the brain. Author Brown is so poignant by stating that “It is ingrained in us culturally. Through the owner of Media-Driven ConsumerCelebreality, we have become mindless Myrmidons, following famed Achilles to an absurd death, and arrow through the ankle.” No matter how many times I read this line it still gives me chills, because times have changed and celebrities have changed and the way in which we think have changed. How many times have you turned on the television, cable or satellite and have said, “There’s nothing on.” You have more than 200 channels and there is nothing on. Yet, the urge to pick up a book and exercise your mind is still not at the forefront of your thoughts, but you still want success?

DS Brown wants you to stop and truly THINK about what your barriers are and begin to plan your success and achieve your goals. I’ve ordered my book. It’s time for you to order yours too! Go the the “books” page on this blog to order it TODAY!

DS Brown will be the featured guest on Chat N’Chill w/Professor Williams on April 17, 2010 at 8:00 pm (EST), www.blogtalkradio.com/professorwilliams.
